The Rev. Dr. Karyn L. Wiseman is an ordained pastor in the United Church of Christ, who grew up and was first ordained in The United Methodist Church. She has pastored at Gloria Dei for six years, in multiple configurations, concentrating on preaching, worship, administration, and faith formation. Karyn has twenty-two years of experience pastoring churches in Kansas, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. She has a PhD in Liturgical Studies/Preaching and Worship from Drew University. Dr. Wiseman is the Herman G. Stuempfle Associate Professor of Homiletics at the United Lutheran Seminary, where she teaches on both the Philadelphia and Gettysburg campuses.
She is married to Cindy Clawson, an avid knitter and social worker in Philadelphia, and they have a son, Shelby, who lives and works in Pittsburgh after graduating from Temple University in 2021. Karyn loves action movies, social media, Broadway musicals and plays, New York Yankees baseball, and the Dallas Cowboys. Her love of the church means she is often dreaming of new ways for the church to be all it can be in a new and changing world.
